Irvin B. Braverman, M.D., 84, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Dr. Braverman was a beloved pediatrician for over 40 years, treating two generations of Tulsa families.
Dr. Braverman was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, on July 21, 1924. He graduated cum laude from the University of Nebraska and University of Nebraska Medical School with degrees in medicine, biochemistry, physiology and pharmacology. In addition to completing several residencies and fellowships in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, he also served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. While maintaining a private pediatric practice in Tulsa, he also served as a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Medical College. Dr. Braverman gave back to his community as a volunteer with several organizations, including St. Francis Hospice, Temple Israel Adopt-A-School, and the Tulsa City-County Library Adult Literacy Program. He also was an avid collector of Inuit (Eskimo) art. His collection is being donated to Gilcrease Art Museum.
Dr. Braverman is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Sylvia; his four children, Ellen and her husband Michael Frajman of Melbourne, Australia, Lisa of Tulsa, Paul and his wife Karen, of Louisville, CO, and Joe, of Silver Spring, MD; his three grandchildren, Leah Frajman, Michael Braverman and Jenny Braverman; and his sister, Sarah Holtzman of San Diego, CA.
Donations in Dr. Braverman's memory may be made to St. Francis Hospice, Tulsa Jewish Health Care and Retirement Center, or Temple Israel.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Sunday, August 10th, at Temple Israel.
