Lorena Jean “Pete” Deines December 21, 1931 - November 2, 2019 Lorena Jean “Pete” Deines passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family in the final moments of her life. Pete was cherished as a devoted and loving wife, mother and friend. Her loving hands touched many in times of need through her acts of kindness and love. Pete is survived by her children and their families: Alan and Ruth Deines (Hays, Kansas) and their children and families Alyson and Tim Schartz and Dory Deines; Jodie English Brown and Craig Brown (Eagle Rock, MO); Tyler Deines and Dottie Palumbo (Highland Village, TX) and their children Kenneth Fredrick II, Nick and John; Lisa and Ken Davis (Tulsa, OK) and their children and families Eric & Kaitlin Davis and twins Ella and Tatum, Carly and Scott Beller and Quinn and Josephine, and Brett Davis. Pete is also survived by her sister-in-law Peggy Pierce (Eufaula, OK); brothers-in-law Jerome Deines (Paul’s Valley, OK) and Steve Deines (Russell, KS); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Fredrick Deines; her parents; her brothers Lee, Dan and Dean Pierce; her sisters-in-law Sylvia Pierce, Billie Debord, Beverly Deines and June Deines. Lorena Jean “Pete” Deines was born in Okemah, OK. Her nickname “Pete” was a term of endearment used by her Father prior to her birth and it stayed with her for her life. She was raised in Oklahoma, moving to Russell, KS, during her Junior year of high school. It was here that she met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Fredrick Deines on November 23, 1950, at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, KS. To this union was born four children: Alan, Jodie, Tyler and Lisa. A devoted mother and wife, Pete’s world revolved around her family. Her husband, Ken, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Marines, Ken and Pete moved to west Texas where their life in the oil business began. This life and career would take them to homes in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Michigan and Arkansas. Upon retirement, Ken and Pete moved to Tahlequah, OK. Pete’s life was filled with making a loving home for her husband, children and many friends who knew there was always a place at the table if needed. Throughout her life, her hands touched many in times of need. These were the hands that prepared our food, that wiped away a tear, that hugged us when we needed it and reprimanded us even when we didn’t think we needed it, the hands of love that sewed the quilts that still warm our beds. Throughout her life, Pete’s faith was strong and witnessed by her service to her church. Her acts of kindness and volunteerism throughout the community served as a guiding example of life for her children. She will be remembered as a faithful friend and servant to those around her. She found the most joy in spending time with her husband, Ken, her family and her many friends. She shared a joy of cooking, weaving, spinning and quilting and many have benefited from the fruits of her labors. She lived a life of Grace. With honor, humor and great humility, Pete lived her life by the Golden Rule. She will be greatly missed. In her final days, the family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Autumn Leaves Memory Care and Rose Rock Hospice Care in Tulsa. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at 10am at: Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, 1423 Cemetery Road, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:30pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st Street South, Tulsa, OK.
