Regina Frances "Jeanie" Turner

Jean “Jeanie” Turner passed away on Friday, August 16th at Kindred Care Hospital. Mrs. Turner was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1932 and attended St. Peters Parochial School and Bishop Ward High School. She graduated with honors from Central Missouri State University (CMSU) with a degree in education and speech pathology. She was president of her college dormitory, an officer in Pi Kappa Alpha sorority, a White Rose Princess of her future husband’s fraternity, and performed in several campus theater productions. After graduating in 1954, Jean began her teaching career in St. Louis as a speech therapist. She and Emery were married in 1955, and Mrs. Turner took a position as fifth grade teacher in Morehead City, North Carolina, near the Cherry Point Marine Base where her husband was stationed. After fulfilling his military obligation, Emery and Jean moved to St. Louis where she earned a master’s degree in early childhood education and continued a forty-year career as a teacher and school administrator. Mrs. Turner earned many citations and awards including hosting then First Lady Barbara Bush and Senator John Ashcroft for a class visit. Early in their marriage, Jean and Emery had three children while Jean continued teaching and being a mother and homemaker. Beyond her own work inside and outside the home, Jean supported her husband in his work as a college professor and administrator. She served as president of the faculty wives organizations of the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the University of Tulsa and organized several social and fundraising events at both universities. Later in life she traveled extensively assisting her husband as he took overseas teaching and administrative assignments. Jean is survived by her husband Emery of Tulsa and Golden, Missouri, their daughter Regina Moncheski, of St. Louis, and her children Emily Monckeski Olge and Timothy, of Colorado Springs, and Kelly Moncheski of New Orleans; son Quentin, his wife Jadene, and their children Quinn and Sydney; son Geoffrey, his wife Patty, and their children Katie and Connor, all of Tulsa. Also surviving are step-mother Betty Quinlan, sisters Theresa Burt and Noreen Denny, brother Michael Quinlan and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews from Kansas City and elsewhere. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the University of Tulsa Athletic Department where Emery served as Chief Administrator from 1976 through 1985, and where Jean was an active member of the Hurricane Club, a tireless fundraiser, and the number one fan and cheerleader of the Hurricane. Visitation will be Saturday 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Christ the King Church and Funeral Mass will be Saturday 12 Noon, in the main sanctuary of Christ the King Church, Tulsa.
