Charles Wayne "Chuck" Mayes

July 10, 1947 - February 22, 2021

Charles Wayne "Chuck" Mayes was born July 10, 1947, in Wagoner, OK. Chuck grew up in Tulsa, graduated from Nathan Hale High School, attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, then transferred to Oklahoma State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing. Chuck had a long career with the Tulsa World, where he retired as a District Manager. Chuck enjoyed many things in life, such as boating and fishing at Grand Lake, family gatherings, and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. Chuck is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betsy Mayes, sister Debbie Mayes Withers, stepson Taron McKowen Jr. and his wife Julie, stepdaughter Kerilyn McKowen, Nephews Nicholas Jacewitz and his wife Janey, Stefan Jacewitz and his wife Keli, Nieces Vanessa Rogers and her husband Bryan, Courtney D'Archangelo and her husband, Dave. Chuck had many grandchildren, Emily and Madeline Hanger, Nicholas and Truman Berghall, Wilson and Margaret McKowen, Keller McKowen and Khloe Hawkins, along with many grand nieces and nephews. Chuck is preceded in death by his father Wayne Mayes, his mother Faye Lee, stepfather Bob Lee, sister Marion Jacewitz, and stepdaughter Crissy Russell. We will miss Chuck's wit and humor, we love you always Chuck! In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Special Olympics of Oklahoma [website] https://www.sook.org Special thanks to the staff at St. Francis Neuro ICU for their excellent care and compassion. A brief service for the Committal of Ashes will be held at the Garden of the Resurrection located at St. John's Episcopal church in Tulsa, 41st and Atlanta, Saturday March 6th, 2:00pm. COVID precautions will be observed.
