Cody's Obituary: John Henry McCoy, 77, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on September 2, 2023. He was born on January 20, 1946, in Aurora, Illinois. John was a loving husband to Debara McCoy (Sublett), a devoted father to his lovely daughter Loren and favorite son Cody, a caring brother to Mary Liebke and inspiring uncle to Joey and Laura. He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Ruth Stratton, father John Ewing McCoy, and stepfather Joe Vince. After graduation from Rockford West High School, he relocated to California and worked his way through USC by selling cars. His love for cars remained with him throughout his life. John was an active member of the SAE fraternity and served as the social chairman, he graduated from USC Business School with degree in finance and marketing. Following graduation he ventured into the restaurant industry, opening a breakfast cafe on Venice Beach, known for its famous 5 egg omelet, while simultaneously starting his 20-plus-year career as a salesman for Bell Telephone Company. After transferring to Colorado he met his beautiful wife Debara, in Aspen, they relocated to Tulsa to start a family, moved to Fort Lauderdale for 3 years, then back to Tulsa. It was here he would reignite his passion for the restaurant industry. John found success in every endeavor he attempted. "In every problem there is an opportunity" was John's motto. In addition to his professional achievements, John had a zest for life. He cherished attending concerts, exploring new destinations, and savoring delicious food. His greatest joy came from spending quality time with his family, traveling the country by motorhome, and enjoying memorable moments on the lake. A memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate John's life. Family and friends are invited to join the service, which will take place on September 15th at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, located at 3612 E 91st St, Tulsa, OK. Burial at Calvary Cemetery will follow the service. John McCoy was a living legend; he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His vibrant spirit, unique personality, and unwavering love for his family will forever be cherished. May he rest in peace. Loren's Obituary: John Henry McCoy was born in Aurora, Illinois on January 20, 1946 to Isabelle Ruth Stratton and John Ewing McCoy. A lover of astrology, he would want it noted he is a Capricorn. He has an older sister Mary Liebke, who currently resides in Grass Valley, California and he had a stepfather named Joe Vince. A true Scottish man on both sides of his family, he moved to Rockford, Illinois as a child and loved his high school Rockford West class of 1964. He moved to California after high school graduation and put himself through USC selling used cars, a love of cars which would follow him the rest of his life. He was an SAE and the life of the party- in fact he was actually social director of his fraternity. After graduation, he opened a breakfast restaurant in Venice Beach- home of the famous 5 egg omelet- and spent his time hearing every famous rock and folk music act that came through LA with his lifelong best friend Tom Slatky. After his time in California, he moved to Colorado where he met his wife Debara in Aspen. The hippie met the good Catholic girl and it was a match made in the Aspen trees of Maroon Bells, literally heaven on Earth. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma after marrying Debara at the Fern Grotto in Kauai, Hawaii. He came to love Tulsa but always spoke fondly of his time in California and Colorado. In Tulsa, he had two children; Loren in 1983 and Cody in 1985. He proceeded to open his first Subway restaurant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, after leaving his 20 plus year career as a salesman for Bell telephone company. At its height his company Fresh, Inc. had 12 Subway franchises and he was always a generous employer. During this time, he and his wife raised their kids and he introduced them to his love of concerts, traveling and good food- spending every second he could with his family traveling the country in his 40-foot motor home and going out on his boat. In 2012, he unfortunately suffered a heart attack and subsequent brain injury that kept him closer to home, although he did still go on a few more beloved RV trips. He handled this last decade very well and fought until the end. He passed away at home on the evening of September 2, 2023. He is survived by his sister Mary, wife Debara, daughter Loren and son Cody, as well as a niece Laura and a nephew Joey. A believer in God, he is now with Him in heaven after living and incredibly full and always adventurous life. He will be reunited with his family someday. May he Rest in Peace. A funeral service honoring his life will be held Friday September 15, 2023 at 11am at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 3612 E. 91st St in Tulsa, OK followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery and a reception at Bar 473 from 1-5pm.
