Sonya Eleanor de Verges
July 24, 2015 - June 21, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Eleanor, after a life-long battle with congenital heart disease, kidney disease and the attendant complications. Eleanor was born on July 24, 2015, at The Children's Hospital at St Francis in Tulsa, Oklahoma and left this earth on June 21, 2021, at the same location. Eleanor was a force of goodness and love who enhanced the life of everyone she met. She faced her many medical problems with a resilience and strength that inspired all who knew of her story. Eleanor was an old soul and she intuitively understood who on any day was in need of an extra smile or hug and she was there to provide. Eleanor loved a party - particularly if presents (for her) were involved! She loved to laugh and play tricks on others. She also liked playing pretend, singing and dancing to any kind of music, going for "walks", doing crafts, and watching birds. Although she had challenges that set her apart from her peers in many ways, Eleanor made friends everywhere she went. She loved pre-K at St Mary's and spending time with special friends from the Fall 2020 preschool group. Eleanor is survived by her loving father, Eugene F. de Verges, her devoted grandmother, Mardi "Mimi" de Verges, her most special aunt, Sarah de Verges, a half-sister, Lainee, other aunts and uncles (including Christopher and Emily de Verges, John Fraley, Phil and Sarah de Verges), many doting/loving/incredible great aunts and uncles, three great-grandmothers, cousins, and other relatives and dear friends who loved Eleanor almost as much as she loved them. She was predeceased by her beloved grandfather, Eugene P de Verges, and by her mother, Brittany. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, in Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Reverend Msgr Dennis Dorney officiating. The family is so very grateful to the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and all staff of the PICU of The Children's Hospital at St Francis for the incredible care provided to Eleanor and her family. Thanks, too, to the personnel in The Children's Day Hospital at St Francis and to the nephrology staff of the OU Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City for their devotion and care. Finally, a very special thanks to four (of many) amazing nurses: Melissa, Anne, Megan, and Mandy who have provided great compassion and care to Eleanor throughout the last nearly six years. The family appreciates all the prayers and kindness extended to them during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanor's memory to the Tuition Assistance Fund at the School of St. Mary, 1365 E. 49th Place, Tulsa, OK 74105 Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel
