Aggie Rae Taylor died Friday June 14 at home with her husband, Benny B. Taylor, by her side after a lengthy battle with heart disease.
Aggie was born Agnes Ray Greer, Feb. 03, 1938 in Tulsa, Ok to Robert and Rose Marie (Franco) Greer who have both preceded her in death as well as her sister, Barbara Gayle Reed. She will be also be met by many family and dear friend and chosen family - not to mention Elvis.
She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Benny, son Dr. Randy Taylor and wife Carmen of Irene, SD, daughter Dr. Terri Taylor and Tulsa designer Benjamin Taylor, both of Tulsa, OK, as well as grandchildren Josh Krafft, of Tulsa, Zachary and Branson Taylor of Box Elder, SD, and Raelynn Taylor of Irene, SD. She also leaves behind her sister Anita and husband Charles White of Longview, TX, nephews Shannon and Jason Reed and their families and many other family members from Coast to Coast, and the many friends who loved her very much.
Aggie graduated in 1955 from Holy Family High School in Tulsa, OK. After high school she went to work for the Tulsa World until she married Benny in 1959. Early in their marriage she and Benny led a busy and fun life running Tulsa Open Wheel Racing. Packing the car, kids, and food and joining friends to run the Tulsa and Oklahoma City racing circuit was the highlight of most weekends. As the kids grew, she had to make time for their school and softball games, Cub Scouts and rodeo's. Whether with Benny at the races, supporting the kids at their activities or watching NASCAR on TV Aggie enjoyed the competition of sports. After the kids grew up she helped Benny run his business, Taylor Machine Tools, until they retired to Inola.
Aggie maintained every friend she ever met. She kept in touch with most of them on a regular basis. She brought humor and joy to every occasion. She looked forward to lunching with the "girls" who were friends from the racing years, bowling with her team and enjoying music at Utica. Being a friend to Aggie was having a friend forever.
Aggie spoke only kind words of others; she checked on her neighbors and cared for her aging and ill relatives and in-law's. She loved the outdoors, always assuring that the birds had food and water and the large game were safe on her land, emulating the works of St Francis of Assisi, of which she had a statue of in her flower garden.
Services will be at Holy Family Cathedral on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm, followed by graveside service at Calvary Cemetery at 91st & Harvard.
As in life, Aggie thought of others after her passing and requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to a domestic violence shelter for women and children; Safe net Services, P.O. Box 446, Claremore, Ok 74018 [Memo:reference Aggie Taylor].
