Obituary

A wonderful life of caring, compassionate service to others came to a completion on Monday, February 11 as Agnes Ruth Hooper passed away peacefully at St. John Medical Center with family at her side.

Ruth was born in Sand Springs, OK to Mary Alice (Kent) and Francis Byrnes on December 11, 1931. She attended school at St. Patrick's in Sand Springs and graduated high school from Holy Family. Following high school, Ruth attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from the St. John School of Nursing. While at OU, Ruth met and later married George Woods Hooper, at St. Patrick's Church in 1951. Ruth spent the next 43 years in dedicated service to those in need as a registered nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care, Cardiac Intensive Care, and Psychiatric Units at St. John's.

Ruth's love and kindness extended far beyond her work at St. John's as she lived her faith serving the Holy Family Cathedral through her volunteerism with the Holy Family Women's Guild, Meals on Wheels, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and providing care and comfort for many friends, parishioners and acquaintances over the years. Her kind, caring and loving ways, along with her incredible sense of humor, will be greatly missed by all touched by her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Hooper and son, John Patrick Hooper, brother Joseph Byrnes, sisters Marie Betts and Sr. Christina (Genevieve) Byrnes. She is survived by George Steven and Carol Hooper, Thomas Joseph and Sheridan Hooper, Cynthia Ruth Driver and Paul Driver, eleven grandchildren, as well as great grandchildren, nieces, and many loving and dear friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Rosary will be said Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., both at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Family Cathedral. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park, Sand Springs, OK.
