Obituary

Albert F. "Al" Cuite was born March 20, 1945 in New York City. He passed into the Chapter Eternal on June 20, 2016. Al moved to Tulsa at the age of 6. Al attended Burroughs Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from the "old" Central High School in 1962. After a college career, interrupted by his service in the Navy during the Vietnam War, he graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in History in 1971. He attended SMU law school for one year.
Al began working in the trophy and awards business on his 16th birthday. Except for his Navy service he continued in the trophy business for 50 years. In 1972 he purchased Mart Trophy and operated it until his retirement in the fall of 2014.
Al was a lifelong active member of the Delta Omega Chapter of Sigma Chi. In 1988 Al became the first Delta Omega Sig to be inducted into the Order of Constantine as a result of his many years of outstanding service to his beloved Sigma Chi. He was Grand Praetor for Oklahoma/Arkansas for 16 years and in 2001 Al won the Edwin C. Fisher Grand Praetor Award. He was a member of the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop Faculty for over 25 years. Al was instrumental in the installation of the Theta Chi Chapter of Sigma Chi at Arkansas State University in January, 1987. Al received numerous Grand Consul Citations during his years of service to the fraternity. He was very proud to act as the Magister for the Sigma Chi Inaugural NSI Class of the Omega Omega Chapter on August 9, 2008.
Al was active in his church, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, serving on the parish council for several years. He also represented Santa Claus for the annual Santa breakfast at St. Bernard for 17 years. He always returned home from those breakfasts with fascinating and touching stories about the "wishes" the children had.
Al was an avid reader and a knowledgeable historian. He studied and categorized his family and extended families genealogy. Al was a caring and loving father and husband. He embraced and always enjoyed his large in-law family. Al and Barbara opened their home and hearts to family and friends as gracious hosts who enjoyed the comradery as much as their guests.
Al is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Tulsa and his daughter, Tonya Clement and her husband Brad of Boulder. Al was very close to his nieces and nephews and their children, especially Christopher and Cole Cowling. His parents John Cuite and Clara Yates Cuite predeceased him.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 16, 2016 at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Tulsa.
Contributions are suggested to the Sigma Chi Foundation for the benefit of The Don Walker Scholarship Fund, 1714 Hinman Avenue, Evanston, IL 60201.
