Albert (Al) Dove, age 103 & 4 months, passed away peacefully in his home, Easter Monday, April 5, 2021. Al was born December 5, 1917, in Mountain Pine, AR to William Henry and Sarah Elizabeth (Robbins) Dove, who had a large farm there. His brothers and sisters are all deceased. Al was a graduate of Hot Springs High School in May 1937, which was very unusual for a farm boy back then. However, farming never really left him as he had tomatoes growing till his end.
Al moved to Chicago to attend accounting school and met Alice G. Vanderheiden, who was in dress designing school. They were married February 13, 1943 in Oshkosh, Wis. They spent 51 years together before her passing. Al felt one of his greatest accomplishments was his 11 children: Christine Dove, Sarah (Sally) Dove Reinemeyer, Pamela Dove Horn, Cynthia Dove Sheen, Timothy Dove, Marcella Dove Ivey, Mary Dove Creager, Gregory Dove, Greta Dove, Paul Dove, and Alice Dove Leib (D). In addition, he has 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren, making 5 living generations.
The Doves lived in Chicago until moving to Tulsa in 1952. Al worked in carpentering and painting for Service Pipeline then American Airlines retiring March 1, 1980. Alice was a seamstress and homemaker. Together they volunteered doing a host of different services at Sts. Peter & Paul, Christ the King, and the Church of the Madeline all in Tulsa. Al was a member & served as an officer of the Knights of Columbus. Al was inducted into the Centenarians of Oklahoma #2211 on June 1, 2018.
Al had a deep spiritual faith, many words of wisdom, and heath remedies learned from the Indians that helped keep the family together and rather healthy. He is remembered as having sung, hummed, or whistled often. He said that nothing he experienced in his youth is applicable to the changes now: cars, television, computer, phones, as technology has advanced so much. He was not raised in a world when everything had to be a favorite. You just accepted what came your way. May he rest in peace now.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11 am at the Church of the Madeline. Rosary will be said at 10:30 am before Mass. Fitzgerald Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. Al requested to be cremated so there will not be viewing.
