Janowski, Alfons, 96, passed away peacefully at Clarehouse on September 28, 2009. Al was preceded in death by his wife Janina and son Tony. He is survived by his daughter Susie and her husband Joe. Al ("Grandpa cookie pockets") will be missed greatly by his granddogs – Megan (who lived with and watched out for him for 5 years), Bentley and Kona. Natives of Poland, Alfons and Janina immigrated to the US in 1949, and lived in Chicago for many years before moving to Tulsa in 1987 to be near their daughter. Al will always be remembered for his devout faith, work ethic, keeping his yard in perfect condition by weeding and edging his grass by hand on his knees, riding his bike to the local park to pick pecans, asking everyone "How much did that cost?", and "supervising" his neighbors' home improvement projects. Because Al was a retired factory machine setup-man, he could make about anything that he needed from a little bit of stainless steel or aluminum and a few dozen nuts and bolts. The homemade items were not necessarily pretty, but they were very functional and they would never break. The funeral mass will be held in Tulsa on Tuesday, October 6 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Megan's former home, Paw Paradise, a non-profit animal welfare organization, or Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa.
