Mom was born Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1918
In Coal Junction, Pennsylvania to
Joseph and Sophia Piazzon of Mezzomonte, Italy.
If you asked grandma about the eventful day, she would relate the following:
The Piazzons operated a boarding house for the local coal miners in Coal Junction, Pennsylvania. The day was Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1918, and grandma had just finished serving Thanksgiving Dinner to the coal miners, yelled out to her husband "Joe the baby is coming, go and get the mid-wife". A new baby girl, named Ann, after her grandmother, was born to Piazzons.
Joe and Sophia resided in Coal Junction, Pennsylvania, with their children George, Mildred (Millie), Ann and Anthony (Tony). Mom remembers the days her dad would take her down into the coal mines to show her where he worked. As a young girl, mom was extremely impressed about the cleanliness of the mines.
With the advent of the automobile and the availability of work in the automobile industry, the Piazzons moved to Detroit, Michigan, were they lived for the rest of their lives. Saturday's were special to Ann since her dad would always take her shopping with him at Detroit's Eastern Outdoor Market by pulling her in her wagon. Fresh roasted peanuts and chestnuts were the treat of each trip. Mom attended St. Mary's elementary school and local high school in Detroit. After graduating from high school Ann went on to college, but with the need for spending money and adventure she went to work for Uniroyal Tire Company. She worked her way up from the factory floor to Office Manager.
In 1945, she was introduced by her sister, Millie, to Bruno Brun of Poffabro, Italy. Dad, just out of the service, worked for The Detroit Edison Company. On October 5, 1946, dad and mom were married at St. Mary's Church on St. Antoine at Monroe in downtown Detroit.
Over the next five years, Ann and Bruno became the proud parents of Robert and Dennis.
In 1950, mom and dad built their first home in Redford Township just west of Detroit. In 1953, the Brun Family moved to Grayling, Michigan, located in the heart of the lower peninsula of the state, where they opened and operated an Italian Restaurant named "Bruno's Fine Italian Food". The restaurant was a family operation. After a fire destroyed the restaurant, the family moved back to the lower part of Michigan in an area known as "The Irish Hills". They resided on Wamplers Lake were mom enjoyed fishing from the pier and crocheting. Mom and dad enjoyed traveling which included an extensive European trip which included visits to dad's and mom's parents' home towns in Italy. After Robert moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Dennis moved to Chicago, Illinois, dad and mom moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mom's hobbies now included lap swimming and pottery.
Dad passed away on February 1, 1981. Mom continued to live in Albuquerque for several years until she moved to Amarillo, Texas, to live with Robert and then onto to Tulsa, OK. She enjoyed traveling with Robert including his franchise visits to the West Texas and Eastern Oklahoma franchises of H&R Block. Mom always loved the days she went to work with Robert where she had things to do and enjoyed meeting and seeing people, especially the office staffs who treated her so warmly and pleasantly.
