Obituary

Arlene Oneida Jones passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the age of 87. She was born June 28, 1923, at Olivet, South Dakota, the daughter of Chris O. Sogge and Alice M. Rames. She was married to Harry Martin Jones, Jr., on March 17, 1945, at Scotland, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Louise Martin, Mavis Anderson, and Mary Cisar. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, her sister Hazel Pearson, and her children, Kenneth Jones, Christine Haley, David Jones, Catherine Jones, Thomas Jones, Philip Jones, and Patricia Williams, their spouses and children, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Arlene met her husband Harry in Denver, Colorado, where she was spending the summer and he was on a pass from the Army. Harry was an employee of American Airlines, and they lived in various locations across the United States before eventually settling in Tulsa.

She was a teacher in the South Dakota schools before meeting Harry. She was the Director of New Haven Methodist Preschool, now the New Haven Methodist Day School, in its first years, and was part of a group of Tulsa preschool directors who worked together to improve their schools. These ladies became close friends who continue to keep in touch and support each other.

The Jones household was a busy one when the children were growing up. In addition to her own large brood, many other children in the neighborhood were nurtured and supported by Arlene.

She and Harry attended the Church of the Resurrection in Tulsa for many years.

Memorial gifts may be made to the New Haven Methodist Day School, or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
