Arlene Lawrence passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 28, 2022 at the age of 85.
Arlene was born February 14, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York to Lawrence and Rose Sternkopf. After graduating from Jamaica High School, she attended and graduated from The Washington School for Secretaries in 1955. She worked as an executive secretary until marrying her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Lawrence on May 11, 1957.
Arlene and Bob lived in New Hyde Park, New York where Arlene dedicated her life to being a wonderful mother and wife. She became involved in the local PTA, served as President of the PTA for 2 years in a row as well as volunteered many hours for school needs and functions. In 1978 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Arlene continued raising her children and was committed to their education, always guiding and encouraging. As the children left home for college, Arlene went back to secretarial work part-time, volunteered in the local adult literacy program, and volunteered a number of years at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Arlene was a lifelong avid reader, enjoyed painting, bridge, playing cards, bowling and tennis. Arlene excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of our family. She was also an excellent gift giver, a highly involved grandmother, and never missed a special date.
She is survived by: her husband, Bob; 6 children; son, Robert; daughters, Joanne Hoffman and husband Jeff; Christine McClure and husband Tim; Karen Burnett; Dana Dudley and husband Paul; Andrea Gibson; 16 grandchildren, Robbie, Amanda, Tim (Brooke), Evan (Debi), Carlie (Andrew), Sarah, Sydney, Lukas, Cale (Sophie), Ryan, Joel, Eric, Taylor, Avery, Caden, Kate; and 5 great-grandchildren, David, Brynlee, Harper, Reagan, Kinsley. Arlene is also survived by her sister-in-law Marianne Sternkopf. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Rose Sternkopf, and brother Lawrence Sternkopf.
Arlene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was greatly devoted to her family and will be remembered for her passion for education, compassion, and generosity. She will be dearly missed.
