Longtime Tulsa resident and outstanding Jenks basketball player, Chip Edmunds, passed away after a sudden illness on January 1, 2016, he was 51 years old. Three beloved nieces and three nephews also survive: Dr. Sandra Rackley of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minn. Cindy Howard, Sean Bishop, Asher, Sadie, and Noah Stull all of the Denver area. Josiah and Tabby Howard of Denver, great niece and nephew also survive. Chip's father, A. Craft Edmunds, Jr. died in 1997.
Chip was Vice President and General Counsel of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Oklahoma and was a graduate of OSU Business School and the University of Tulsa Law School, where he received numerous awards. His accomplishments at Jenks High School included basketball MVP, 1984, district All-Star, and Frontier Conference Player of the Year. He was also on the honor roll thru out his high school career.
Perhaps his most significant personal accomplishment was having the gift of putting people at ease with his kindness, sensitivity, and wonderful sense of humor. His dry wit was legendary.
Chip was also a graduate of the Leadership Tulsa and Leadership Oklahoma programs.
He was a Salvation Army board member and an enthusiastic Bell Ringer at Christmas. During his college years, Chip worked on weekends as a cottage counselor at the Tulsa Boys Home where he quickly became a trusted mentor and friend to many teenage boys. More than a few troubled youths in later years would contact Chip and tell him what a difference he made in their lives.
All who knew and loved Chip will never forget what a special person that he was and how blessed we were to have been a part of his life. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm at the Fitzgerald Southwood Chapel on Friday, January 8, 2016. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tulsa Boys Home or the Salvation Army.
