The Lord has received our precious daughter way too soon, Avery Shannon (17) was taken from us on May 25th in an ATV accident. Avery was a vivacious, strong, smart, beautiful soul who lit up the room and everyone around her. She was born in Plano, TX and lived in Tulsa. She is survived by parents Doug and Lisa (Newman) Shannon, brothers Blake and Tate; Grandparents, Doc and Nancy Shannon, all of Tulsa, Cherie and Ken Empfield of Marrietta, GA, Ron and Pam Newman of Columbia, MO; Aunts and Uncles; Chris and Karen Shannon of Austin, Texas, Ron and Michelle Cross of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Elizabeth Mendenhall, Ford and Melanie Mendenhall all of Columbia, MO and numerous cousins. She attended Jenks High School and just completed her junior year. She loved dance, art, friends, family and Jesus.
Avery started dancing at the age of 3 and has been an active member of the Jenks Varsity Pom Squad since her sophomore year. Her best friends were part of the Jenks Pom Squad and through the years they celebrated many national titles and Jenks victories. Avery was excited to be chosen as one of the three captains of the varsity squad and looked forward to her senior year. Her infectious smile and pleasant attitude were noticed by all as she shined at games and in performances. She took pride in her skills and was loyal to her team and friends. Her close friendships went beyond the Pom Squad and included soccer, volleyball, cheer, track, football, baseball and basketball. Her large circle of friends meant the world to her. Avery was giving and committed to her faith. She was also involved in DECA, Young Life, Drug Free Youth and loved serving others on several mission trips that she attended.
To her family, Avery was the sun, the moon and the stars. One look on social media and you can see the love she had for her family. Her Mother, Lisa was her best friend – but she was a daddy's girl. She loved being a big sister to brother Tate and loved having big brother Blake always looking after her. She was always up for a trip to see her cousins and grandparents. She called her cousins extra sisters and brothers and treated them the same. Time with family was always the best time. She could fill a house with laughter and fun. A quote on her Instagram page was "A day without laughter is a day wasted".
There will be a visitation on June 1st, from 4-8 pm at Fitzgerald's located at 3612 E. 91st and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 2nd, 11 am at Redeemer Covenant Church located at 5415 E 101st Street, Tulsa, OK 74137.
