Barbara Rambach was born January 4, 1935. She died Monday, March 23, 2015 at 80 years of age.
Barbara was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her parents were Rae and Morris Schechtman, also of Tulsa. Barbara graduated from Tulsa Central High School and H. Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans. Her deep and lifelong sense of caring and justice led to a career as a social worker in New Orleans.
On June 17, 1956, Barbara married Baer Rambach, a medical student at LSU in New Orleans. Barbara and Dr. Baer Rambach were married for 34 years and raised their family primarily in Shreveport, Louisiana. Barbara returned to Tulsa in 1990 where she lived a rich family and civic life. Barbara was active in community service, the arts and philanthropy. She spent many years as a docent at The Philbrook Museum of Art. She was a lifelong member of B'nai Emunah Synagogue and was involved with its many activities.
Shortly after moving back to Tulsa, Barbara met Sam Brenner, and they had a 20 plus year relationship. They enjoyed a full social and cultural life in Tulsa as well as frequent travel.
Barbara will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, partner and loyal friend. She was known for her intelligence, compassion, warmth, sense of humor, charm, wonderful cooking and love of art and literature. She gave tirelessly of herself to her family, friends and community. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son Jeffrey and his wife Elizabeth and her partner Sam Brenner. "Mimi's" beloved grandchildren include Molly, Elliot and Jordan. She is also survived by her brother Gilbert Schechtman (Bea) of Delray Beach, Florida, nieces Deidre Farr (Tom) of Des Moines, Iowa, Maureen Schechtman of Orland Park, Illinois, Marya Schechtman (John Marko) of Chicago, Illinois, and Megan Brenner and Samantha Brenner.
Friends may honor Barbara's memory with contributions to: B'nai Emunah Synagogue, Tulsa Jewish Retirement and Health Center or Iron Gate.
Funeral Services were on Wednesday, March 25th, at Congregation B'nai Emunah, 1719 South Owasso, Tulsa. Interment followed at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa.
