On January 2, 2024, the world lost a beacon of love, faith, and unwavering dedication, as Barbra Sue Jean Smith peacefully passed away at the age of 68. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on January 13, 2024, at Victory Church, 7700 S Lewis Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Barbra, born in Pryor, Oklahoma, on September 25, 1955, to Charles Alfred Sr. and Lena (Cloud) Farr, grew up in the embrace of a large and loving family. Throughout her life, she carried her deep love for the Lord and a passionate desire to be a vessel for His direction.
Barbra's heart overflowed with love for her family, especially her grandkids, who brought immense joy to her life. Her journey with Victory Church began at 3rd and Sheridan, where she attended services and eventually became the Sunday school office manager for an impressive 25 years. During her tenure, she organized numerous events that brought together people, creating a sense of unity and fellowship within the community.
In 2023, Barbra embarked on a new journey, accepting the challenge of Master Gardening. Eager to cultivate beauty and life, she looked forward to commencing her required service in 2024. Her green thumb was an extension of her nurturing spirit, a testament to her passion for growth and sustainability.
Barbra wore many hats throughout her life-devoted wife, mother, beloved grammi, cherished great-grammi, loyal friend, confidante, and counselor to many. Her influence reached beyond familial ties, touching the lives of friends and community members alike.
Her pursuit of knowledge led her to OSUIT, where she pursued some college education, and she continued her learning journey with courses in computer-based systems. Certified in emergency response through CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), Barbra was also trained as a storm spotter and received FEMA search and rescue training.
A memorable part of her life was the "APPLES of GOLD" program with Maria Reynolds, a reflection of her commitment to personal growth and connection.
Barbra and Jerry's love for travel was fulfilled in several vacations including their "10/10 vacation" - a remarkable journey through 10 states in 10 days, exploring the wonders of the ARC, Creation Museum, and Cherokee, NC. Also, a 10-day trip to Alaska from Fairbanks to Seward.
Barbra's work at Victory Christian Center (VCC) was not just a job; it was a labor of love. Her dedication went beyond monetary rewards, as she cherished the opportunity to work for the Lord and alongside people she held dear.
Security and safety were paramount to Barbra, reflected in her numerous security classes taken alongside her husband, Jerry. As a member of the POTC Ham Club, she not only tested and passed the Technical Class but also achieved the General Class license. Her commitment extended to the VST (volunteer security team), where her skills were put to good use as an Overwatch position.
An active participant in the "Spiritually Awake, Naturally Prepared" Sunday School class, Barbra contributed to hand-to-hand self-defense illustrations, showcasing her sense of humor by playfully throwing her husband into a piano.
Barbra Sue Jean Smith is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Smith, and their four children: Clarice Campbell (husband Tim), Alex Harjo (husband Mike), Anna Cornelius (husband Ross), and Rachelle Smith. The legacy of love she leaves behind extends to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Additionally, Barbra is survived by her mother, Lena Farr, and six siblings: Nancy Mclemore, Charles Farr Jr. and wife Marilyn, Martha Manning, Helen Henry and husband John, Norma Moore, Tommy Farr and wife Sheila, and Virgil Farr and wife Gena.
Barbra's influence reached numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who were touched by her warmth and kindness. As we celebrate her life, let us remember the remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Barbra was preceded in death by her father, Charles Farr Sr., brothers Roy Vann and Samuel Farr, and her son, Chris Smith. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all those who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
