Obituary

Betty Lou Gonzalez passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Betty Lou Braswell was born in Tulsa, Ok, August 3, 1937 to Corinne Braswell-Whitworth and George Braswell. Betty married Richard Gonzalez, January 18, 1964 and were married 46 years. Betty grew up in Tulsa attending Holy Family Catholic School. She graduated from Central High School in 1955 and attended the University of Tulsa. Betty loved meeting people and always wore a big smile on her face. Betty's faith gave her strength during her childhood and comforted her during her illness. Betty's pride and joy was her family. Betty was also blessed to have a second family with her friends and staff at the University Village. She loved being involved on committees and overseeing the events there. She most recently began taking Spanish classes. Betty was an active supporter of the Tulsa Chapter of JDRF, as a long time diabetic herself her focus was helping find a cure for her three grandchildren who have Type 1 diabetes.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, and her brother George. She is survived by her son, Johnny Ray Reed, three daughters: Val Hansen and husband, Carl, Michelle Tonielli and husband, John and Melanie Ellis and husband, Charles, all of Tulsa. Betty was "Grandma" to Jamie Reed-Hurst, Johnny, Courtney, and Kylie Reed, Kristen Hansen-Hedges, Eric and Alisen Hansen, John and Michael Tonielli, Jordan Stipe-Wingo, Dawson and Sydney Ellis. She was "Great-Grandma " Bailey and Tatum Gorrell, Jackson Hurst, Kai Reed, and Lilliann Wingo.
Her family is thankful for the exceptional care she received while at St Francis Heart Hospital 5 specialty, a special thank to her team of doctors, Dr. Randall Raine, Dr. RJ Azadi, Dr. Sanjeev Trehan, and Dr. Robert Mammana .
Visitation will be Sunday, December 1st, 4:00-6:00pm and Rosary following at 6:00pm both at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 2, 2013, 11:00am at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to JDRF, Oklahoma Chapter-Tulsa, 601 S.
