Obituary

Betty Nell McDaniel, passed away Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 after a brave and noble battle with cancer. Born to Bud and Bernice Keim on November 30th, 1936 in Beaumont, Texas, she was the eldest of four siblings. She graduated from East Central High School and earned her teaching degree from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Herbert McDaniel in 1958. They would have been married for fifty-nine years on September 13, 2017. While raising a family and teaching, Betty continued her education and achieved her Masters Degree. Her enthusiastic approach to teaching Science influenced her many students over the thirty years she taught Physical Science and Biology in Oklahoma, and fifteen years she taught Oceanography in Texas. Betty was a fun-loving and carefree spirit-and no doubt, feisty-a little lady of 4'11" with a huge personality. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband. Betty loved life and lived it to the fullest. And she never gave up. She is survived by her beloved husband, Herbert McDaniel, her daughter, Debbie Maddux of Tennessee, and her son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Denna McDaniel of Florida. She would want her grandchildren, Sloane Maddux, Mary and Alan Cabral, Charlie, Rosie and Abby McDaniel, to know how very proud she was of them. Betty will be missed by her surviving two brothers and sister, her many nieces and nephews, friends and students. All of us who knew and loved her were enriched by her presence in our lives. A service celebrating her life will be Friday, September 15, 2017 at The Church of Saint Mary, 1347 East 49th Place, at 2:30PM. A Rosary will be said in her honor at Fitzgerald's Southwood Chapel, 3612 East 91st Street at 7:00PM, Thursday, September 14th. Prior to the Rosary on Thursday, Viewing will be from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.
