Billie JoAnn Walker Avey was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on November 10, 1936. On March 26, 2012 she quietly passed away and entered the Gates of Heaven, to walk with her Heavenly Father.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Avey; biological father, Ardra V. Walker and her parents Raymond L. and Evelyn L. Broyles; grandparents, Wilbur L. and Ethel Adkins; and grandson, Joshua D. Anderson.
Billie is survived by her son, Mike and wife Laura; son, Phil and wife Krista; grandson, Kevin; granddaughters, Katy and Miranda; great-granddaughter Alexia; sister-in-law, Lynda; niece and nephew Ann and Tony; various other nieces and nephews; AND Skipper.
Billie was a 1954 graduate of Tulsa's Will Rogers High School and the University of Tulsa, Class of 1974. She was active in the Credit Union Industry, holding a variety of positions with a number of institutions, including Managing Printing Industries Credit Union and McDonnell-Douglas Employees Credit Union. She also served as President of the Magic Empire Chapter of Credit Unions, where she was one of the 4 founders in the establishment of the Magic Empire Chapter Essay Scholarship Contest, where thousands of dollars have been awarded annually since its founding.
Billie's church affiliation was Jenks First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she was an elder, and she served in several other capacities. For several years, Billie and Harry were fixtures at Camille's Sidewalk Café in Jenks, where they could be found reading their bible or studying their Sunday School Lesson. Billie was also known to frequent the Jenks Restaurant, where she ate many healthy breakfasts and had great fellowship with Tasha ' Codie.
During their 53 years of marriage, Billie and Harry enjoyed traveling together, as well as attending various athletic events and activities of their sons and grandchildren. When the grandchildren were younger, Billie and Harry took great delight in sharing the experiences of Port Aransas, Texas; digging for crystals in Salt Plains National Refuge; and attempting to visit all 35 of Oklahoma's State Parks. A frequent activity was undertaking of numerous science projects to find answers to the questions of "how and why".
Billie will be greatly missed by her immediate family, friends and church family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Jenks-Far South Meals on Wheels, c/o Jenks First Christian Church and The Jenks Community Food Bank, where Billie and Harry were frequent and loyal volunteers.
A Memorial Service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Jenks First Christian Church.
