Obituary

Bruce L. Barton, "Bubba Louie" entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Hunter, Fisherman, Runner, Pilot, Disco Dancer, Best Dressed Person in the Room, Captain of Aeries on Grand Lake, these are just some of the few titles that he held during his time on earth.

Bruce was born October 13, 1951 in Enid, OK to Max and Beverly Barton. He was the oldest of 5 siblings and was known as the "Senior Statesman". He attended Enid High School graduating in 1969. He was a member of the tennis team and letterman's club. Bruce achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He attended college at OSU and finished his degree at Phillips University in Enid. Bruce moved to Tulsa and began his insurance career with Aetna Life and Casualty. In 1975 he started his own insurance agency, The Barton Companies, as an independent agent where he spent his career. Bruce earned the professional insurance designations of Charter Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

Bruce ran and completed 15 marathons three of which were the Boston Marathon. His most famous race was his second Boston Marathon in which he carried the engagement ring that his wife to be Nancy cut out of his running shorts after he crossed the finish line. Bruce Married Nancy on July 23rd, 1988.

Bruce was an avid OU fan and had a different OU outfit for each game of the year, every year. He was a proud parent of his daughter Page who graduated from OU.

Bruce loved his dogs. At one point, with four dogs in the family, he was proud of his ability to keep them all straight on their leashes during their walks.

Bruce had the gift of presence, whenever you were with him he made you feel like the most important person in the room. He was big on details and planning events to make them look effortless. He was a master of toasts for holidays and special occasions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who made each outing an event.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy "Darlin", daughter Page "Fredweena" and her husband John Gavino of Irvine, CA, mother Beverly Barton of Tulsa, brother Brent and his wife Debbie of Keller, Texas, brother Brad and his wife Mary Lou of Bixby, OK, Sister Tracy Nicholas and husband Jeff of Little Rock, AR, brother Eric Barton of Dallas, TX

His ten nieces and nephews, who adored him are, Max , Abbey and Jack Barton of Keller, TX, Jared, Ben Barton of Bixby, OK, Andrea Barton-Calvert and husband Luke Calvert of Kansas City, Victoria, Evan, and Alexandria Nicholas, Little Rock, AR. He was proceeded in death by his father Max Barton.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa.

There will be a celebration of life for Bruce L. Barton in the Chapel at Asbury United Methodist Church on Wednesday May 25TH at 11am. Pastor Dick Read will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald Funeral Service, 918-291-3500.
