Carl Edward Browning Jr., 83, formerly of Norman, died peacefully at his home on August 15, 2013.
Carl was a retired Navy Deep Sea Salvage Diver who served in both Korea and Vietnam. In 1973 he hired into the Electric Shop at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA, where he retired as a Foreman of Shop 51 in 1985. He couldn't stay away from ships and the sea, it seemed, so he joined a few former work mates and went to work for a contractor traveling around the world inspecting and repairing shipboard ventilation systems for the Navy.
He is survived by his bride, Gayle (Clifton) Browning, and children, Carla René Martin (husband, Ted) of Tecumseh, OK., Carl E. Browning III (wife, Shawn) of Virginia Beach, VA., his brothers, Richard (wife, Marla) of Quenemo, KS., James (wife, Frankie) of Bremerton, WA., three grandchildren, Coddi Martin, Steven Browning, Nicholas Browning, one great grandchild, Lillie Floyd and mother-in-law, G. A. Clifton of Tulsa, OK.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carl's honor to Wounded Warrior Project (
