Obituary
Carol Ann Cunningham–Collins, 76 years old, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015. She courageously battled for weeks and ultimately succumbed to complications that come along with pneumonia. She was born on Wednesday, February 2, 1939 in Topeka, KS. She was a longtime resident of Tulsa, OK, and was a graduate of Rogers High School "Class of 1957" in Tulsa. She was in nursing professionally for over 30 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, yachting and working on her tan. She loved bowling, skating and motorcycle riding. She also loved attending many different local festivals, such as: Bluegrass "The Farm Shopping Center", Porter Peach, Stillwell Strawberry, Native American Heritage Dances and many others. Her passion though was, by far, her love of square dancing.
Carol is survived by her husband, Gary Collins, and was a loving mother of four children: daughter, Dr. Renee Elizabeth Wharton; sons, Robert Groll Mullins Jr.; Michael William Mullins; and Scott Mylan Mullins. She was so proud of each of her eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her hero admittedly was her father, Thomas William Cunningham, who appeared to her larger than life, as he stood 6'6" tall. He pitched professionally mostly in the minors for North Platt NE of the Indians organization and a brief stint with the Yankees organization prior to a career-ending injury. He passed in 1974. She admired that her stepmother, Helen E. Cunningham, who passed in 1961, treated Carol and her brother as if they were her own. Carol will be laid to rest alongside Helen, who is next to Thomas, in the Cunningham family plot in Topeka, Kansas. She is also survived by her baby brother, Thomas Cunningham, his wife, Tanya Cunningham, and their loving family.
Services are as Follows:
Viewing will be Sunday, December 27, 2015, from noon to 6 p.m., at Fitzgerald Funeral Home Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Memorial Service will be Monday, December 28, 2015, 10:30 a.m., at Fitzgerald Funeral Home Ivy Chapel, 1402 South Boulder Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Private Family Graveside Service will be Tuesday, December 29, 2015, 1:30 p.m., Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Topeka, Kansas.
