Catherine Ling Stromie passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011, in Tulsa, OK. She was born July 18, 1920, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Henry and Ioda (Jones) Ling.
She received her RN from the St. John Hospital School of Nursing in Tulsa. Catherine dedicated her life to the profession of nursing and, coming from a family of outstanding achievers, she graduated at the top of her class at nursing school. She was highly sought after as a private duty nurse.
Catherine was a member of the Oklahoma Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association and a long-time member of Holy Family Cathedral and the Cathedral Women's Club.
She stimulated her mind lifelong by attending the Continuing Adult Education Classes at Boston Avenue Methodist Church for forty years and was a firm believer in daily exercise. During her nursing career she was late only once, because of a snowstorm. Her life was one of self-sacrifice and caring for others. Her love of her son, and his for her, were evident in all they did together throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers James Ling and Michael Ling, both of Dallas, Texas; and sisters, Ann and Mosell; survived by her son Chauncey Joseph Stromie; brother Charles Ling of Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Kay Keith and Theresa Horton and husband, Ron; brother-in-law Douglas Stromie and wife, Lolieta, all of Tulsa.
