Obituary

C. R. "Bob" Heaney passed away on February 21, 2013. Bob was born February 20, 1922, to Charles R. and Lula Kyle Heaney in Memphis, TN.

Bob graduated from Christian Brothers High School, and after attending Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL for two years, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma to study Petroleum Engineering. When WWII began, Bob joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, becoming the squadron engineering officer. He returned to OU to complete his education after his military service.

In the years after his retirement at Warren Petroleum and then Gulf Oil, Bob contributed thousands of hours as a volunteer. Most recently he had volunteered at St. John Medical Center since 1995, where he was much loved by the nursing staff.

Bob was a devoted husband and father, taking care of each and every member of his family with great dedication and attention, a magnificent role model to each of his children and grandchildren. Even with seven children, Bob was avidly involved with his kids' sports and scouting activities. He helped his children raise a wide-ranging menagerie of pets when they were young and regularly piled all the kids in the car on Saturday mornings to run errands. He was an eager traveler, with trips to Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, and numerous road trips all over the U.S. (sometimes with a trailer and seven kids in tow!).

Bob was also a valued friend to many. He could be counted on for advice and aid, and he quietly helped many who turned to him over the years. He was known for his delightful sense of humor, his treasure trove of stories (told with an Irish glint in his eyes) and his lifelong enjoyment of socializing and entertaining with friends or family.

Bob is survived by his wife Ida, seven children and six grandchildren: Charles (III) of Durham, NC; Stephen (Hope) of Los Angeles, CA; Mary Ann of Louisville, CO; Elizabeth of Tucson, AZ; Trish of Hillsborough, NC; John (Elizabeth) of Suwanne, GA; Chris of Park City, UT; he leaves grandchildren: Diana, Ryan and Lauren; Michael and Matthew (who will miss their "porcupine"), and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack and survived by his sister Joanne Richards of Houston, TX.

A Rosary will be said Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., and Memorial Mass will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., both at Church of St. Mary.
