Charles Austin Toppins was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 12, 1930 to James Austin Toppins and Elizabeth Moore Toppins. He attended public schools, until 7th grade, when his parents sent him to Immaculate Conception Catholic school. He graduated in 1949 from Holy Family High School. He attended Oklahoma State University until he joined the navy in 1952. He served four years on an LSM ship going from U. S. To Japan and was seasick all four years.
After discharge from Navy he attended Tulsa University and on June 1, 1956 he married Janet Butler. Their marriage lasted until his death on April 26, 2019. They had four children: Tamara Toppins Noah, Teresa Toppins Dye, Anthony Charles Toppins , Timothy William Toppins. His son, Tim preceded him in death and he is survived by his wife and his other three children, his daughters in law, Julie, Melissa, son in law, Jeffrey Noah, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and both brothers.
Charlie worked for Vinson Supply Company as office manager for 32 years and after his retirement in 1986 he began studying and was ordained a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in May of 1989. He served the church in Tulsa and Langley, Oklahoma until his retirement in 2015. Charlie loved to fix anything that was broken and was so happy when someone had an ice maker or shredder that wouldn't work and they would ask him to look at it. He loved being able to fix things for people.
He volunteered at American Red Cross, Meals On Wheels, St. John Hospital and helped in any way people needed him. He loved and was true to his family and friends. He will be missed.
Viewing will be at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 14th and South Boulder Avenue, from noon until 5 PM, on Friday, May 3rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 4th, 10 AM, at Church of the Madalene. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
