It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Charlotte VanHoose, a beloved mother, grandmother and loyal friend. Born on November 12, 1940, Charlotte met life's challenges with a mix of warmth, laughter, and open dialog. She had a frank way about her-never afraid to speak her mind-but it was paired with a deep, genuine care for people. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion to her children and grandchildren, conviction, and the courage to stand firmly for what she believed.
Charlotte lived life on her own terms, advocating for the sidelined, marginalized and forgotten. Her devotion to the Baha'i Faith, and the Baha'i community, shaped so much of who she was and how she moved through the world. She had an enduring love of dancing that brought her great joy. Friends, family, and social work were constants in her life, grounding her no matter the season.
Charlotte is survived by her sons, Joel VanHoose (Joleen), Jason VanHoose (Elizabeth), and Aaron VanHoose (Stacy), her beloved daughter, Kelly Smith (Dave), her faithful sister Marcia Nelson (Tommy) and cherished grandchildren Aubrey (Jane), Andrew, Sydney, Abigail and Dylan VanHoose. Charlotte was predeceased in death by her father, Ivan Brooke, her mother, Ila Brooke, her brother Roger Brooke and her ex-husband, David VanHoose. Her memory will be kept alive by those who loved her most; her family and close friends.
A graveside service for Charlotte will be held on Saturday, February 28th, in Tulsa, OK at Rolling Oaks Cemetery at 1:30pm, with a reception following at 11357 South Juniper Street, Jenks OK. Additionally, there will be a Celebration of Life in Springfield, MO on March 15 at 2pm, at the Unity of Springfield Church. We encourage everyone who knew and loved Charlotte to join us in celebrating her life and embracing the values she held dear.
