Obituary

C. A.  "Bud" Nichols died peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2010.  He was born in Rhome, Texas on April 30, 1920 to parents Chester Arthur and Mabel Nichols.  He married the love of his life, Gerry, while both were serving in the U.S. Army, at Fort Ord, California in 1950.  They enjoyed 45 years of marriage before she died in 1995.
Bud was a Veteran of World War II and Korea.  He was in five campaigns:  Southern France, Rhineland, Naples Foggia, Rome-Arno, and Central Europe.  His military unit assisted the people of Dachau the day after its liberation.  He attended the University of Texas and retired from a long, successful career with Johnston & Murphy Shoes, where he was Midwest Manager of an eight-state region. He was an active member of the St. Pius X and Bishop Kelley communities, as well as the Knights of Columbus.  He loved playing golf and watching sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing.
Above all else, Bud was an excellent and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  His family loved and admired him very much . . . Barbara Joyce and daughter Michelle Joyce; Joan and Steve McNeely, son Brian McNeely, and daughter Rachel McNeely; Janet Brown, daughter Jenny Brown, son Matthew Brown, and his wife Ashley Brown; Mary and Matthew Culver and sons Tommy, Joey, and Jack Culver.
The Rosary will be held at St. Pius X on Friday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Pius X on Saturday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m.
Bud was a great supporter of Catholic education; contributions may be made in his memory to St. Pius X or Bishop Kelley.
