Chester (Chet) Lamar Byrd passed away peacefully on August 10th, 2021 at the age of 84. He was comfortable and surrounded by family. Chet was born October 4th, 1936 to Hubert Joe Byrd and Lottie Owana Thompson in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the second of three children. After graduation from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1954, he attended the University of Oklahoma to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. While at the University of Oklahoma he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and played for the OU baseball team. After graduating college he received a commission in the United States Army where he served in the rank of Captain as a Green Beret. He married Sandra Puryear on August 25th, 1957 and they raised three children: Rebecca Shell (Byrd) Llewellyn, Matthew Lamar Byrd, and Wesley Allen Byrd. In his professional career he was the CEO and President of Air Cargo Equipment Corporation and numerous other companies. In his free time he enjoyed flying, golfing, going to sprint car races, and attending his grandchildren's activities. He is preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Lottie Byrd; his sister Owana Jo Meyers; and his son Matthew Byrd. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years Sandra Byrd; brother Arthur Byrd; children Rebecca Llewellyn, Wesley Byrd; grandchildren Britanny Cast, Shelby Byrd, Quinn Llewellyn, Audrey Byrd, and Evan Byrd; great grandchildren Loran Cast, Clayton Cast, Deaton Byrd, Allie Byrd, and Evelyn Cast.
