Obituary

Clara Polur was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, September 6, 1928, to Russian immigrants who fled to America during the pogroms. She grew up with two older brothers, Dave and Sam, and single mother, Ida Polur, who was a powerful role model, instilling family values, Jewish identity, and family closeness that became the core essence for Clara as an adult.

Clara married Sidney A. Simon, March 14, 1953, and lived happily ever after, raising four children, William, Joy, Carol, and Doreen. Clara said that her most important achievement in life was "having my kids.  I love my kids and I think I do a good job.  They are all interested in everything that's going on around them."  The greatest tragedy for any mother's life occurred when Clara's first-born son was taken from her in a random heinous act of violence.  The love and comfort of Clara's husband, Sid Simon, helped sustain his beloved wife Clara.  The mutual love and admiration for each other lasted throughout their lives.  "If she were a Catholic, I'd nominate her for Sainthood," says Sid.  Even during difficult circumstances and health declining years, Clara's positive attitude enlightened those around her.

Clara Simon operated a cosmetic distributorship, and served as a volunteer for "The Little Lighthouse" for blind children.  She also volunteered as a counselor for "Call Rape" victims.

Clara Simon leaves behind her husband Sid Simon; three children, Joy Pentz, Carol Simon, and Doreen Shackelford; as well as nine wonderful grandchildren, Daniel, Emily, Elise, Lauren, Hannah, Aaron, Chris, Mike and Amanda.

Funeral Services will be 2 PM, Friday, March 4, 2016, at Temple Israel. Interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery will follow.

Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, 918-585-1151.
