Claudia Marie Iten passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2022, at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born on November 15, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Ann Rasche. She graduated from Sacred Heart, an all-girls high school in Memphis. While attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, she met the love of her life, Paul Iten. They married December 26, 1959. After growing up as an only child, Claudia was certain she wanted a big family. She and Paul became the proud parents of six children, and they lived all over the country before finally settling the family in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1972. Claudia was a devout Catholic and had a special reverence for Mother Mary, always keeping a rosary within reach. It was important to her and Paul that their children received a Catholic education. Claudia and Paul were active members of the St. Pius X and Bishop Kelley communities where their children and several grandchildren attended. After raising her children, Claudia worked at the University of Tulsa Law Library. In her retirement, she continued to serve and was an active volunteer at St. John Hospital for many years.
A passionate sports fan, you could always count on Claudia to be loudly cheering on all her favorite teams, ranging from football to basketball and tennis. She loved Rodgers and Hammerstein and singing along to her favorite show tunes and records. She was always happy to play a game of cards or Scrabble, especially with her family. Claudia was an avid reader of the daily newspaper and would often save articles for her loved ones that she thought they would enjoy. She had a soft spot for golden retrievers and several were fortunate enough to be adopted by Claudia. These lucky dogs were always treated as members of the family and were fiercely loved.
Claudia was proud of her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was at her happiest during large family gatherings and holiday events. She was preceded in death by her mother and her husband Paul. She is survived by her sons; Chuck (Kay), Jerry, and Mike (Sandy); her daughters; Therese, Kathy (Steve), and Mary (Bryan); her brother-in-law Jack (Carol), and her sister-in-law Barbara (Art). She is further survived by her grandchildren; Michael (Reagan), David (Lindsey), Jennifer (David), Kimberly (Alex), Rachel, Stephen, Anna, Mary (Colin), Zack (Lesa), Katy, Emily (Sam), Matthew, Calista, Nicholas, Nathan. Her great-grandchildren are Kamber, Dax, Paisley, Kaylin, Jason, Luke, Logan, Colton, Olivia, and Olive.
