Obituary

Dick Bushaw (83), passed away on July 14, 2013 at his home in Tulsa, OK. He was born in Grand Forks, ND on July 1, 1931 to Owen and Lillian Bushaw. He attended high school at St. Michael's in Grand Forks, ND and after a short time in the seminary he served 4 years for the Air force in the Korean War.

Dick married Mary Fisher and had twin boys, Bart and Bret. He settled in Tulsa Oklahoma and became an insurance agent with the Siegfried Company. In 1963, he married Leslie Wallace and had two children, Owen, and Sean Margaret.

Dick would open his own business, Bushaw Insurance Agency. Following retirement, he continued to work for Joe West Company. Dick became a pilot to better serve his clients in the aviation business and also specialized in lawyer's professional liability.

Dick loved what he did professionally and personally. He had many interests, among them, sailing, Harley motorcycles, hunting, fly fishing, and grilling on the Hasty Bake while enjoying a fine bottle of champagne. He loved life and made it an adventure for him and all those around him. Dick believed strongly in being involved in his community. He was involved in the Chamber of Commerce, Independent Insurance Association, Tulsa Rotary Club, Ducks Unlimited (Good Ol' Boys), and Nature Works.

He is survived by his bride of more than 50 years, Leslie Bushaw. Siblings: Colleen Hauser, Carol Buegel, and Dewey Bushaw, Children: Bart and Sandy Bushaw, Bret and Teresa Bushaw, Owen and Amy Bushaw, and Sean Margaret and Bill Droessler. Grandchildren: Brenna Bushaw, Bailey Bushaw, Ava Bushaw, Lola Bushaw, Max Bushaw, Danielle Droessler, and Nicole Droessler. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Owen and Lillian Bushaw. Siblings: Beverly Gulmon, Jean Smith, Shirley Maloney, Owen Bushaw, Donny Bushaw, and Joannie Bushaw

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Southwood Colonial Chapel (3612 E. 91st Street) from 5pm to 7pm, with a Rosary beginning at 7pm. The funeral mass will be held at Church of Saint Mary (1347 E. 49th Place) on Friday, July 19 at 10am, immediately followed by a grave side service at Calvary Cemetery (9101 S. Harvard Ave). In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Catholic Charities.
