A Celebration of Life
Donald W Moore
March 8, 1932 - November 29, 2024
Donald Whidden Moore passed from this life on November 29, 2024 at 92 years. Don was born in the family home in Brownwood, Texas on March 8, 1932. He grew up in May, Texas with his beloved grandparents, Big and Pop Monsey and his brother Bill Moore. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering and from the University of Oklahoma where he received a Masters of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.
He met his future wife, Jo Avis Gallop Moore, when attending a seminar in Tulsa in 1953. Married in 1955, they were inseparable till her death in April 2016. They were married for 61 years and had one daughter, Melissa Moore Willby. The family grew to include a son-in-law Nelson Willby, one grandson, Christopher Donald Willby, plus three dogs, two cats and a myriad of friends and relatives across three states.
Don worked for Amoco Oil for 36 years. His job took him all over the oil fields of the Gulf Coast. At various points, the family lived in Beaumont Texas, Houston Texas, Clear Lake Texas, Tulsa Oklahoma, and New Orleans Louisiana. All these places left him with a deep appreciation for Oklahoma, where he returned to live in 1985. Returning to Tulsa was a homecoming to extended family for both Don and Jo Avis.
Don created a beautiful family home and built a community of family and neighbours who are friends to this day. He cared for and was loved by his family and the community around him. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held in Don's memory, 1 p.m. Friday, December 6 at Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel in Tulsa, OK.
