Donald "Don" Paul Metz, aged 92, passed away on March 31, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Don was born on April 28, 1931, in Creston, Iowa, to parents Edward and Irene Metz. He graduated from Creston High School in the class of 1948 and went on to pursue a degree in Law from the University of Iowa. In 1955, he relocated to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he began his career as a Contract Landman at Cities Service, then moving on to William Companies and eventually finishing his career with Vintage Petroleum. Don dedicated over 50 years of service to these organizations. On August 22, 1953, he married Carolyn Metz, and together they initially resided in Iowa City before moving to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1956, and later to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1971.
Throughout his life, Don was deeply committed to both his work and his family. He found joy in activities such as golfing, watching baseball, particularly Spring Training in Arizona, and cheering for University of Tulsa football games. Those close to him will always remember him for his kindness, quick wit, sense of humor, and wisdom.
Don is survived by his children: Mike Metz and his wife, Erin, of Scottsdale, AZ; Pat Metz and his wife, Kelli, of Edmond, OK; and Suzanne Uhrman and her husband, Jim, of Broken Arrow, OK. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Austen Metz and his wife, Jen, of Scottsdale, AZ; Blythe Cayson Metz and her wife, Pernille, of Atlanta; Grace Walker and her husband, Zac Walker, of Newport, CA; Mackenzi Nichols and her husband, Chance, of Edmond; Cooper Metz and his wife, Hanna, of Oklahoma City; Corbin Metz and his wife, Grace, of Oklahoma City; Jack Thompson and his wife, Maggie, of Tahlequah; Callie Slaff and her husband, Jake, of Oklahoma City; and Nick Thompson of Coweta, OK.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Metz.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday, April 5th, at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 9101 South Harvard Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
