Donald "Don" Frank Zetik Sr. passed away on December 16, 2012. He was born on November 28, 1938 to Sylvester and Milady Zetik in Brenham, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Janet Zetik Gerke. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruthie, his children Don Zetik Jr. (Megan) and Debbie Kurtz (John), grandchildren Patrick and Ava Zetik of Tulsa and Dylan Kurtz of Portland, Oregon.
Don was a small town boy who loved reading and math from early in life. He graduated from Brenham High School where he played clarinet in the band, then earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. He continued his education with post doctoral research and teaching at Washington State University.
Don married Ruthie Nelson of San Antonio in 1969. They loved and supported each other through many challenges including each of their battles with cancer. Don was a ten year survivor of multiple myeloma. His strength, courage and tenacity serve as an inspiration to all who knew him.
Cities Service Oil Company brought Don to Tulsa in 1970, where he lived the rest of his life. He also worked with Dowell Schlumberger, Radco, Artec and Thermal Process Engineering.
Don loved any intellectual challenge and even claimed recreational math as his greatest hobby. He took up speed walking after his myeloma diagnosis. Don also enjoyed spending time with his Dalmatian dogs Dice and Buddy and cooking. Don was a kind, loving and generous man who will be greatly missed by every person and canine who knew him.
