Obituary

Doris Dolores Eaton, (Dee Dee), 90, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in Tulsa, OK. She was born December 9, 1920, at Muskogee Baptist Hospital in Muskogee, OK to Darwin Gragg Eaton, Sr. and Dorothy (Nash) Eaton. Dolores was the first of three children, followed by brother Darwin, Jr. and sister, Marilyn. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1938 where she held a perfect attendance record all three years.

Dolores never drove a car, never owned a home, never married or had children. Her 'children' were her beloved parakeets which she enjoyed for many years. Probably her greatest love was sports… which she thrived on. She enjoyed attending the midget car races at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Pavillion in the 40's as well as ice hockey games at the old Tulsa Coliseum. Years later, she and her sister were Tulsa Oiler season ticket holders at the Civic Assembly Center in Tulsa. Dolores was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan as well as a HUGE fan of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish football team.

Dolores retired from Murdock Tank in Tulsa where she was employed as a secretary for 33 yrs. She lived alone for the last thirty years of her life, but was never lonely. She was happiest listening to the tunes of organist, Ethel Smith… or sitting in front of her tv watching sports, classic old movies and tv shows from the 60's. Lawrence Welk was one of her absolute favorites. Dolores received so much pleasure from so very little… which says a lot about the kind of person she was. And she was never known to say an unkind word about anyone.

Her one brush with fame was the time she met Greer Garson at the Tulsa State Fair and got her autograph. Portraits of the star adorned her tiny apartment. But she was probably most proud of her conversion to Catholicism and membership to Holy Family Cathedral.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Darwin G. Eaton Sr. and Dorothy Eaton; her brother, Darwin G. Eaton, Jr. and sister, Marilyn Hane. She is survived by her sister-in-law Georgia Eaton; nephews, Darwin G. Eaton III (Chief) and Jim Eaton; nieces, Mary Lynn (Eaton) Whitsett and Linda and Lisa Hane; and many great- nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday at Ivy Chapel, and a Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2011 at the Chapel of Memorial Park Cemetery. Interment will follow.
