Obituary

Dorothy Woodall Hamer was born December 26th, 1920 in Texon, Texas. Her parents were James Arthur and Annie Delphine Woodall. At 18 she left the desperate times in Texas due to the Dust storms and the Depression and headed for California hoping for better opportunities. There she met many other young people and with their help began training to become a Dental assistant. She met her husband Thomas Donald Hamer who was the dentist who first hired her.
Dorothy and Don settled in Santa Monica and had two daughters, Ada Jean and Donna Katherine. In 1954 an earthquake destroyed their dental office and they moved to Stockton, California to open a new practice.
Dorothy's husband died when she was only 45 years old. She then decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and started nursing school. She obtained her AA degree and began work as an LVN at St. Joseph's hospital where she worked on the oncology floor for almost 20 years.
Dorothy loved her daughters, her work, her home and garden and had many fond memories. She loved to talk about her German shepherd dog Stefan and her pet Blue jay who she trained to take peanuts from her hand. She was very active in Girl Scouts for many years. She loved to travel and went on many trips throughout the USA and to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Panama, and Mexico.
In 2008 she moved to Tulsa to be near her daughter Ada Galli and her granddaughter Brenda Galli's family. She resided at University Village and enjoyed crafts, reading, and social events there.
By 2015 with failing eyesight, hearing loss and increasing weakness she would tell friends "I've had a great life, done everything I wanted to do, now it's time to go". On April 8 her wish was fulfilled.
She will be forever in the loving memories of her daughter Donna Hamer, daughter Ada and son in law Raymond Galli, her grandson Raymond Galli Jr, grandaughter Brenda Galli, and great grandchildren Audrey and Gregory Chisum. "Donations in her memory may be made to":
