Dorothy "Dorry" Morgan Effron
On Saturday, March 2, 2019, Dorothy Morgan Effron, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dorothy Elizabeth Morgan, Dorry to her family and friends, was born on July 14, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to William and Rudy Morgan. She spent most of her childhood in Carbondale, Pennsylvania after her parent's death.
Dorry attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania earning a Bachelor's Degree in English. Bucknell was where she met, her husband of sixty-six years, Frank Effron, at a school dance. Dancing remained a significant activity throughout their lives. On June 4, 1952, she and Frank married in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. Together they raised one son, William (Bill) after settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Dorry was passionate about writing, sewing, wood carving, swimming dancing and traveling. She was a member of Alpha Phi Fraternity while at Bucknell. For many years, she remained active in the local and national affairs of Alpha Phi.
In 1974, she wrote and published a book on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR. It became know across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico as the "Green Book". For the next nearly 30 years, the Green Book was a primary teaching text for emergency medical personnel and individuals wanting to learn CPR.
After Frank retired, they danced through 140 countries and all 7 continents. Their favorite places included Asia, the Middle East, and sailing in the Caribbean. On two of their trips across mainland Europe and the United Kingdom, they shared the sights and experiences with their family. Even today, her three granddaughters talk about the places "GrandMa" and "GrandPa" took them.
Dorry was active in many activities, including the Assistance League of Tulsa volunteering at their store, Bargains. She would bring home donated electronics for Frank to "test and repair" before deeming them ready to sell at Bargains.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, William, and her mother, Rudy. She is survived by her husband, Frank, her son Bill and his wife Susan, granddaughters Emily Honomichl, Lauren (Kyle) Shepard, and Ashley (Matt) Dvorak and five great grandchildren, Haley, Sutton, Avery, Connor and Parker.
