Obituary

Duane Allan Odegaard was born on November 15, 1940, in Hannaford, ND to Alfred and Eleanor (Larson) Odegaard. He grew up in Hawley, MN where he attended and graduated from Hawley High School. He went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration and a minor in Mathematics.

In July 1964, he joined the U.S. Navy and went to Pensacola, FL for pre-flight training and received his commendation upon completion of training. He continued flight training in Pensacola and Milton, FL. Next, he went to Corpus Christi, TX for advanced training and earned his Navy gold wings. From there, he went to San Diego, CA for flight training in the Northrop Grumman E-2A Hawkeye, an early warning twin engine turboprop, which he flew the rest of his naval career.

From San Diego, he transferred to Norfolk, VA, which became his home base. He went to the Mediterranean in 1967 for 9 months. He deployed to Vietnam in 1968 for 8 months and sailed around the world on the aircraft carrier USS America (CVA-66). During his time in the Navy, he was awarded the Air Medal, Navy Commendation "V" Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

When Duane returned from Vietnam, he met Beverly Ann O'Dell Armstrong and they were married on June 20, 1969, in Norfolk, VA. In July 1969, Duane left the Navy and they moved to Bloomington, MN where he went to work with Northwest Airlines as a pilot. He was laid off due to a strike and went to work with Red Owl Stores in Minneapolis. In 1973, they moved to Brainerd, MN where they owned and operated a card and gift shop. In 1983, they moved to Tulsa, OK. Duane was back in the grocery business and continued until his retirement in 2005. In 2011, Beverly passed away after almost 42 years of marriage.

Duane married Judy Clancy on October 12, 2012, in a ceremony in Hawaii. They resided in Broken Arrow, OK.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents, and sister Connie Knutson. He is survived by his wife Judy, 3 daughters Cindy (Robbie) Paulsen, Stacia (Willis) Woodard, Karena (Bobby) Miller all of Tulsa, OK and 2 sons Wesley (Jennifer) Odegaard of Tulsa and Sean Odegaard of Lakeland, FL, and 2 stepdaughters Lisa (Chad) Huff of Boynton Beach, FL and Lori Hinesley of Broken Arrow, OK, 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, his brother Charles (Judy) Odegaard of Deerwood, MN, sister Carol Brenteson of Plentywood, MT.
