Obituary

Dean Metz, 88, died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma following a long illness.
He leaves behind a brother, Don Metz, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a daughter in law, Tina Thompson, of Henderson, Nevada, granddaughters Heidi Thompson of Hickory Hills, Illinois, and Christal Towes, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also one grandson, Amos Thompson, of San Diego, California and two great grandsons, Kenny and Elijah. Along with dear friend, Linda Hughes.
Dean was born on November 27, 1927 in Creston, Iowa to Ed and Irene (Colgan) Metz. He grew up on a farm in Adams County, Iowa. The family moved to Creston, Iowa during Dean's high school years.
In his early years, Dean would help on the farm. He participated in 4-H and Drama Club. He graduated high school in 1945. He then joined the U.S. Maritime Services. After that he served with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division. When done serving his country Dean enrolled at the University of Iowa. He went there for 3 years and transferred to Drake University. He graduated with a Law Degree.
Dean married Virginia Rose Thompson on February 14, 1959. Dean also became a father to Virginia's two sons Mike and Dick Thompson. Dean and Virginia were married for 48 years upon her death in 2008.
At this time Dean lived in Burlington, Iowa. Dean's law career consisted of Mutual Casualty Company, Assistant City Attorney, Assistant County Attorney, County Attorney, and Assistant to the State Attorney General. Dean retired in 1992.
Dean and Virginia moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be close to his elderly mother. Upon her death, they moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Wanting to be near their son, they next moved to San Diego, California. After five years they decided to move back to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Dean was an avid golfer. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Dean was very active in his church with Bernie's Bunch, a singing group. This brought great happiness to him. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dean had been a member of the Elks Lodge and Lions Club.
Dean was proceeded in death by his parents, Ed and Irene Metz, wife, Virginia Metz, and step sons, Mike and Dick Thompson. Rosary: 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 and Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016 both at Saint Bernard of Clairvaux.
