Long time Tulsa resident, Edwin E. Claytor Jr,. passed from this life to the next on November 25th, 2013. He was 88.

Edwin E Claytor is survived by his four children and their spouses: Thomas and Debrah Claytor of Los Alamos NM; Patricia Claytor , Michael Claytor of Tulsa; Cathy and Bill Barney of Tulsa Ok.. As well as a brother Richard Claytor and his wife Linda of Arlington Tx. and brother-in-law, John Schwenker. Ed has five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary P. Claytor and sister Helen Schwenker.

As a youth, his family moved from St Louis to California and finally to Tulsa. He vowed to stay in one place after his peripatetic youth and chose Tulsa as his residence. After a brief period with the US Navy, he graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the University of Tulsa and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He married Mary P. Walker in 1947 who was also a T.U. alumnus. He began work with Phillips Oil Co. and subsequently had a long and productive career as a research scientist with Amoco Oil that lasted 33 years where he was the Chairman of the local ACS chapter and a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. These were early exciting times for polymer chemistry and his career with Amoco was just as exciting as when a fire broke out and gutted his lab over one weekend at 41st and Yale.

Edwin was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family. As a father, he instilled self-reliance, honesty and a strong work ethic in his children while quietly indulging them in their sports, science, recreation and hobby activities. He enjoyed sports and played basketball, tennis, golf and greatly enjoyed being a member of several bowling leagues, including Pam Am Petroleum. He was and avid gardener, fisherman and reader. He will be especially remembered for taking his family on numerous vacation trips by car to the great outdoors and amusement parks.

After retiring from Amoco, he volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross and American Cancer Society for 10 years until Mary was stricken with ALS. He was her faithful caregiver during these difficult times until she passed. His Roman Catholic faith has guided him throughout his life and was a comfort during Mary's prolonged illness.
