Elizabeth "Betty" Livingston was enfolded in the arms of angels and welcomed to the Heavenly Kingdom of God on Sunday, June 16, 2019. With faith, joy, gratitude and great determination she lived to be 100 years old before dying peacefully in her home with her family present.
Betty was born in Oilton, Oklahoma, on September 4, 1918. She moved to Tulsa with her parents, Henry, and Anna, at an early age. She graduated from Holy Family High School in 1935. In March, 1940, Betty married Gilbert Livingston, a dear man who learned to dance in order to ask her for a first date. She said he never danced again but she loved him anyway throughout their 57 years of marriage until his death in 1997.
Betty's professional life in Tulsa included administrative work at Goodyear, Douglas Aircraft during WWII and Pennant Petroleum. In the 1950s she established Vandever's Bridal Department and served as their Bridal Consultant for many years. She was happy to be a member of the Marilyn Riggs Estate Sales team, relishing the opportunity to help shoppers find treasures and collect their money.
Her greatest joy in life, however, was her work with charitable causes. She was committed to the social concerns activities at Church of the Madeline, the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless Nurses Clinic, Catholic Charities and Meals on Wheels. As her friends knew, she never wanted presents for herself on her birthday but always requested clothing, especially athletic socks, which she donated for the use of those in need at the Day Center or food for Catholic Charities or the Food Bank.
Betty is survived by her three children, Judy and her husband, Bruce (Marietta, Georgia), Katy (Tulsa) and David (Colorado Springs, Colorado); her sister, Gloria Huckaby Sanders, grandchildren Thomas and Angela, and great grandchildren, Madison, Jon Paul, Midori and Hayes. She was predeceased by her sisters Virginia, Bunny, a brother, Richard and grandchildren Michael and Steven.
She will be missed but always loved and remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, we know Betty would appreciate your donation to the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, Catholic Charities or a charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Madalene. Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 918-291-3500.
