Obituary

Ellen Owen Millard was born April 17, 1944, the daughter of David and Pamelia Shaeffer, in Boulder City, Nevada. She passed away May 14, 2015, peacefully in her home. Ellen's unbending optimism, strong faith, and good humor continued with her to her final breath. Ellen was born the second of four children, and held close bonds with her older brother Jim, and two younger sisters Barb and Peggy. Barbara preceded Ellen in death in 2011.

Ellen is survived by her husband Ross, brother Jim, sister Peggy, five children Brett, Travis, Bonnie, Marcie and Scott, as well as eleven grandchildren Cailie, Talie, Caleb, Caroline, Jaden, Luke, Carter, Madi, Lydia, Zoey, and Claire who all loved their "Grams" very much.

Ellen graduated from the University of Kansas in 1966, a proud Jayhawk. She completed her MBA from Oklahoma State University in 1996. She had a rewarding career, much of it served at the Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO). Ellen was a mentor, leader, and dedicated worker and colleague. She took great pride in her work, and it showed through her extraordinary success and the many friends she made along the way.

Ellen was very involved in the community, a trait she acquired from her parents. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Sand Springs, a Rotarian, she volunteered with local charities like Pathways, was a trustee at the Kirk of the Hills, and donated her time and efforts in many other ways. She also enjoyed golfing, travel, nature, photography, and was an extremely talented artist able to print, draw, and sculpt.

Ellen has been characterized by friends and family as tough, loving, gentle, kind, honest, and full of life, integrity, laughter, and energy. She will be missed.

Services will be held at the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers to honor Ellen's memory, the family asks that donations be made to cancer research at The Ohio State University, through Ellen's memorial profile at pelotonia.org/ellenmillard, or through a cancer related charitable organization of your choice.
