Ellen Katherine Phillips age 93, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014 in Ft Worth, Texas. Ellen was born on August 28, 1920 in Booneville, MO, the eldest of nine children born to Henry W. and Mabel (Oswald) Bechtold. She graduated from Saints Peter and Paul High School with the class of 1938. After graduating Ellen attended Dunkle Business School then was employed at Kemper State Bank in Booneville. In 1948 Ellen married Sam J. Phillips after he served in the US Army during WWII. They moved to Kansas City, MO where Sam was employed with the Skelly Oil Co and started a family with the last of five children born in 1958. Ellen and Sam moved their family to Tulsa, OK in 1968 when Sam joined his uncle O J Smith in operation of Smith Brothers Abstract & Title Co. Ellen worked off and on at the abstract company with Sam until they sold the company in 1989 and they retired. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Sam J. Phillips, her parents Henry W. Bechtold and Mable O. Bechtold, her brothers Jim Bechtold, Max Bechtold, Harold Bechtold, her sister Alice Blanck and her son Donald J. Phillips. She is survived by her sisters Mary Jean Wasleski, Dorothy Hayes, Virginia Schulte, her brother Bob Bechtold, her daughters Paula Durland, Barbara Harris, Debra Beauchamp and her son Greg Phillips. There are five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at the Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2014. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Catholic Charities.
