The Shannon family mourns the loss of Marian "Ellen" Shannon. On Sunday, December 12th, 2021 Ellen died at home after a prolonged illness, in hospice care, with her husband, Charles Shannon, at her side. During the preceding hours and days, she was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family.
Ellen was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 6, 1938 and was the only child born to her parents, Hazel Smith Mauldin and James L. Mauldin. She is survived by her husband, Charles Gentry Shannon and three of their four children, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma: James Christopher Shannon (Terry), Kathleen Noel Shannon Huff, and Charles Andrew Shannon (Gina Billbe); her grandchildren, Eric Christopher Shannon (Jennifer), Kevin Michael Shannon (Kayla), Ryan Patrick Shannon (Ashley), Sean Devin Huff and Emilee Huff Bloomfield (Connor); and her great grandson, Jude Alexander Shannon. She was preceded in death this year by her son, John Nicholas Shannon (Kim).
Ellen began her education in Tulsa at Saints Peter and Paul school, continued to Marquette High School and pursued a degree in art from the University of Tulsa. Ellen was married to Charles Gentry Shannon on August 30, 1958. Ellen and Charles raised their four children in Tulsa.
Ellen was a talented artist and designer. She mastered and taught many painting media/disciplines including transparent watercolor, traditional Chinese painting, gouache, dyes on silk, gouache on silk. She also enjoyed oil and pastel but her all-time favorite medium was pencil. She created many other things also, from delicate pieces of porcelain to jewelry and one-of-a kind silk scarves.
Our hearts are broken at the loss of our witty, stylish, fun-loving, and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, teacher and dear friend. Ellen loved to spend time outside, whether in her own garden or in the great outdoors, far from home. We know Ellen is in heaven; pain free and reunited with family, friends and many beloved animals.
A prayer service will be held for Ellen in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery at 91st & Harvard on Thursday, December 16th at 1:30pm. We will do our best to remain Covid safe and ask you to please wear a mask.
