Obituary

Oldest child of Bud and Mamie Roper, Elvin was born at home in Wewoka, in April, 1936. A couple of years later, he welcomed his favorite sister, RozAn and then, finally, the brother that he always wanted, as Jerry finally made his entrance to the Roper crew. Despite the adorable tag along side, Pug had no competition in the favorite grandchild category. He was adored by both his Sizemore grandparents. This status was not affected by the family nickname, which was legitimately earned by the behavior you envision of "Yodeling Pug". This moniker stuck with him throughout his life. Elvin was always fascinated by anything shiny and fast, despite this his first car was not at all described thusly. He spent most of his days working on the Model A that he purchased cheaply with his own money.

Elvin graduated Wewoka High School and began working at the ice plant. He was introduced on a blind date to his future wife, Cletis, through a mutual friend. They began their family in August, 1959 and soon were blessed with a daughter, Wanice, while he was away serving in the Army Reserve at Fort Chaffee. Wanice was the joy of their family for almost a year, before her life was cut unexpectedly short. Fortunately, they were again blessed when they welcomed a new baby boy, Kendell, to their family on the same day in July, a short two years later. They then moved their little family to T-town, the big city. Elvin worked several jobs to support his family and welcomed two additional girls to the family within a few more years, Melissa and Michele. He and Cletis trained their children, by both word and deed, to follow God's Word in all things and to make God the first priority thoughout life.

Although Elvin trained for TV repair, he never worked in that field. He instead stayed close to the oil and gas industry. He worked more than a decade at the Texaco Refinery until it closed. Before eventually settling to work for the City of Tulsa, he had multiple jobs. He retired from the City of Tulsa but wanted to keep busy, and thus worked for the Tulsa International Airport and the Ford dealership as driver.

Elvin and Cletis were happily married for more than 55 years before she preceded him in death in January, 2015. Elvin was residing at the Heart of the Ozarks Health Center in Ava, Missouri for the last few months of his life.

Elvin will be greatly missed by his children, Kendell and Dyanna Roper, Melissa and Jimmy Kiser, and Michele and Dan Nickel. Also his grandchildren, Josh and Tammy Roper, Daniel and Debbie Roper, Jayme and Natalie Kiser, Nathan Roper, Mark and Kalen Roper, Leah Nickel, Ben Kiser, TJ Nickel, Rose Nickel, Elizabeth Nickel, Alex Nickel will miss Papa/Grandpa/Pop. His great grandchildren, Rachel, Brianna, Noah, Gage, Asia, Emmett, Gabriel, Colton, Garrison, his brother Jerry and Earlene Roper, his sister, RozAn Walston and a crowd of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends will all join to remember his life and legacy
