Obituary

Estelle Aberson, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 28.

Estelle was born on May 18, 1931, to Joe and Dorothy Katz. She was raised in Tulsa and attended Central High School and the University of Oklahoma on an opera scholarship.

She married Max Aberson in 1951 and they made their home in Okemah, Okla., where she assisted her husband in operating the family department store, Aberson's. Estelle and Max were an important part of the fabric of the Okemah community where they were active in the local school district. They had three children, Shelly, Henry and Steve.

In 1964, Estelle and Max moved their family to Tulsa, where they opened Aberson's  in the Southland Shopping Center. Estelle Aberson was a businesswoman ahead of her time, traveling extensively to New York and Dallas to bring the latest fashion to Tulsa.

She was known for her sophisticated style and high heels. Estelle was a force of nature who commanded a room with her remarkable presence, natural glamour, tremendous warmth and dramatic flair. She retired from the original Aberson's store 25 years ago. However, she continued to be well known for baking hundreds of cookies for the annual holiday party at Aberson's, which became an annual tradition and popular with customers through 2018.

She was preceded in death by her longtime business partner and friend, Max Aberson, and former husband Geno Coefield. She is survived by sister Rita Zeff of Tulsa, brother Jerry Katz and his wife Brenda Katz of Las Vegas, Nev., son Henry Aberson, daughter Shelly Aberson Narotzky, her husband Hal Narotzky, son Steve Aberson, and his husband Brent Ortolani, all of Tulsa, granddaughter Natalie Narotzky Desmond, her husband Harry Desmond, of Great Barrington, Mass., and grandson Max Narotzky of New York, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, Contributions can be sent to B'nai Emunah Synagogue in Tulsa.

Funeral Services will be Friday, May 31, 2019, 11:00 am, at Congregation B'nai Emunah. Interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
