Obituary

Audley, Fée (Fay) Nelges passed away on September 16, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born to Majorie Constance Witshire and Francois James Cheminais on December 17, 1922 in Bombay, India.

When she was less than a year old, the family returned to Europe and lived in the south of France. Fay went to English boarding schools beginning at six-years-old and graduated with Cambridge matriculation at age 15. She then entered a women's finishing school in Lausanne, Switzerland, graduated at 19, and had to remain in Switzerland when WWII broke out.

A fluent speaker of both French and English, she became a translator for the OSS (Office of Strategic Services), the predecessor of the CIA. Following the war, Fay came to the U.S. on a diplomatic passport. She lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Los Angeles, CA, while she travelled across the country modeling for trunk shows. Her modeling career brought her to Tulsa where she was introduced to W.H. "Bob" Audley by mutual English friends. Bob had come from England to Tulsa after the war to study petroleum engineering at the University of Tulsa. They were married in 1947 and celebrated their 51st anniversary before Bob passed away in 1998. Bob was a geophysicist and co-founder of Seismic Reference Service. During the early years of their marriage, Bob's job as a petroleum engineer took them to live in small towns across the northern plains of the U.S. and abroad. Bob, Fay, their son, Derek, and daughter, Ann, lived in the Philippines for more than two years. Upon their return to Tulsa, Fay worked in the real estate business with Mrs. Jonas Ford for a few years.

Fay was an exceptional cook and an avid gardener. She loved animals and supported many animal rescue organizations. She enjoyed reading and was a tennis player and lifelong fan of professional tennis.

Fay is survived by her son Derek and his wife, Cathy; her daughter Ann Ralston; grandchildren Elizabeth (Todd) Chambers, Philip Audley, Stuart (Gulsah) Audley, Laurel Ralston, Miles (Kenzie) Ralston, and great-grandchildren, Lucy and Will Chambers, and Robert Audley.

The family suggests friends who wish to pay tribute to Fay make a donation to their favorite charity.

A private family service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa.
