Obituary

LOMAX – Floreine Brooks, 92, died March 3, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Tulsa whose identification with the needs of others improved lives within and beyond her family and community. She was one of the first women elected to a leadership position at East Side Christian Church, where she served on the board, led and participated in women's groups, taught Sunday School, helped to sponsor a refugee family, and created a Meals on Wheels program. Her focuses were always education and mission. Her twenty years of volunteer activity with M.O.W. included service as Coordinator of the Northeast District. She led both Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scout troops. Floreine Lomax, born July 14, 1922 in Salina, OK, was a graduate of Central High School and studied at the University of Tulsa. She enjoyed a pre-motherhood career with Oklahoma banks, including the National Bank of Tulsa. In 1945, she married Harold Lomax and later worked with the Phillips and Lomax Insurance Agency. She loved to share her appreciation of literature and of the arts with others, and was admired for her generosity, energy, humor, and intellect. She is survived by: her daughters, Katherine Stevens of Washington DC, Marian Murray of Kansas City, and Ann Eisenmenger of Tulsa. Her daughter Carolyn Lomax-Cooke died in 1990. She is also survived by her sons-in-law, Nye Stevens, Mike Cooke and his wife Sarah Hansel, and John Eisenmenger; by 7 grandchildren: Susannah Stevens and Caroline Stevens, Heather Cooke Biehunko and Lauren Cooke, Seth, Grant and Evan Eisenmenger; by 3 great-granddaughters, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Harold Lomax died in 2009. Friends can honor Floreine's memory with contributions to Meals on Wheels of Tulsa or World Neighbors. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, March 9th at East Side Christian Church, 1438 South Indianapolis Avenue.
